This brilliant red Christmas cookie is garnished with crushed candy canes.

Cream together sugar and butter. Add egg, food coloring, and extract. Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Roll into a 1 inch ball and place on a baking sheet. Press a thumb into the middle of the cookie ball, making a well. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-11 minutes.
Melt the chocolate and oil together; mix until smooth. Pour into the thumbprint wells and drizzle for decoration. Sprinkle candy cane dust over cookies before the chocolate sets.
