Hungry Chick Cupcakes

These insanely adorable cupcakes are so cute, you won’t want to eat them… But they’re so tasty, you’ll definitely want to eat them. It’s maddening! Even when I was color correcting the pictures I couldn’t stop going “Awww!” in a super high pitched voice. Using a special frosting tip on top of a chocolate cupcake, you can create a nest of chocolate frosting. From there, just draw a face on an egg shaped M&M, attach an orange chocolate beak, “et voila!” Cuteness incarnate.

AuthorMackieDifficultyIntermediate

 1 box Chocolate cake mix
 Vanilla frosting
 Chocolate frosting
Egg shaped candy coated Easter chocolate, yellow
 Orange chocolate, melted
 Black gel pen

1

Make the chocolate cupcakes according to the directions on the box. Bake until fully cooked; allow to cool.

2

Using a #233 tip, pipe the vanilla frosting in a spiky, "grass-like" pattern all across the top of the cupcake. Remove the frosting tip from the vanilla piping bag, clean it, and place onto the bag of chocolate frosting. Pipe the frosting in a circular motion until you form a nest of chocolate frosting.

3

Cut a small strip of parchment paper and fold it down the center. Release the paper so that it springs back into a three dimensional triangle. Using an toothpick, spread the melted chocolate into two triangles, one on either side of parchment papers fold. Allow chocolate to set then remove from the parchment paper mold.

4

Set two yellow chocolate candy eggs into the chocolate frosting nest, making sure they're pointing vertically. Using the black gel pen, create two black eyes on the egg shaped candies. Touch the back of the solidified chocolate beak with some of the melted orange chocolate. Carefully hold the beak to the M&M to create an open mouth.
