Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in almond extract. Combine dry ingredients and gradually add together. Stir in gumdrops.
In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold into dough. Create cookies one tablespoon at a time, spacing them 2 inches apart on an ungreased pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool on pan for 1 minute before removing from pan. Bon appetite!
